Social Worker Julie Nagle Honored by Zonta

We are proud to announce that our social worker, Julie Nagle, was awarded by Zonta Club of Jamestown for her outstanding work in the community! Way to go Julie!

The Zonta Club of Jamestown recently recognized four area women with the club’s Women in Leadership Awards. Each year the local Zonta Club honors women from our area whose activities and leadership in the community help to further Zonta’s mission, which is to advance the status of women through service and advocacy.  Recipients in 2022-2023 were: Julie Nagel, Sally Naetzker Baer, Heather Brown, and Christine Schuyler.

Julie Nagel is a social worker at Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.  She provides psychosocial and practical support to terminally ill patients and their families. This can include counseling, assistance with completion of advance directives, and coordination other healthcare providers and community resources.  She also helps with practical tasks such as assistance with coordination of home management and transitions in care settings, among other tasks.  Social workers’ contributions, such as Julie’s, are critical to the overall care for every patient.  Julie is also the music director at Panama Methodist Church.

Sally Naetzker Baer spearheads raising support and aid for Ukraine since the full scale invasion began in March of 2022. Over $670,000 was raised in 2022, and she is continuing her efforts this year.  Sally recently received the Ukraine Medal of Support from Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s commander of the armed forces. In addition to her work in the Ukraine, she owns and manages two stores (one at Ashville General Store and the other in Lakewood) whose proceeds go to charity.

Heather Brown is Assistant Executive Director of Program Operations at The Resource Center. Heather is responsible for overseeing primary care, dental, mental health, health related, social services, and children services divisions.  In addition to all of this, Heather also took on the task of bringing Toys for Tots to Chautauqua County more than 20 years ago.  She continues to spearhead this program, volunteering countless hours to ensure every child in Chautauqua County receives toys during the holiday season.

Christine Schuyler is currently the Program Director for Healthcare Initiatives and Workforce Development at Jamestown Community College.  Prior to this position, Christine was the Director of Health and Human Services in Chautauqua County from 2011-2022. As public Health Director during the pandemic, she worked tirelessly trying to keep the county safe while adhering to the quickly and ever-changing regulations. Details of her tenure show a number of advancements and contributions to provide the best possible public health for the people of Chautauqua County.
