The Star Hospice House Welcomes First Patients

Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care is proud to welcome the first patients to The Star Hospice House (TSHH). The culmination of a three year capital campaign, TSHH is a 5 patient facility with guest house, expected to serve around 200 patients per year. TSHH will admit its first patients on Tuesday, July 5.

While most patients would prefer hospice care in their home, complex medical needs or the lack of an available caregiver may force patients into a nursing home — a significant disruption in the middle of an already difficult time. The Star Hospice House is devoted to providing compassionate care in a setting designed to reduce stress for both the patient and their family.

“We are so thankful for everyone in the community that helped make this project possible, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent care throughout the county, and now within The Star Hospice House too.” said Kris Brombacher, Interim President/CEO.

Patients within TSHH can expect personalized care from our nurses and aides 24 hours a day. Patient rooms include private bathrooms with wheelchair accessible showers, independent temperature control, a comfortable home-like environment, and a pull out sofa for family members.

“The Star Hospice House will be more than a medical facility,” said Laura McCollough, RN, Residence Director of The Star Hospice House. “Our goal is to provide the best care possible in a calm, home-like environment for patients and their families. We’ve trained our staff on our patient-centered philosophy and policies to prepare them to best meet patients’ needs with compassion and flexibility.”

Admission to The Star Hospice House will be determined based on patient need. If you or someone you know is interested in admission or learning more, call CHPC today at 716-338-0033.
