Residence Director

I. Position Summary
Responsible for both the day-to-day operating performance and accomplishment of strategic objectives within functional areas of responsibility in Clinical operations. Uphold Agency mission, vision, and values, which address the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families who are experiencing life-limiting, progressive illnesses.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
a) Assure progress and/or successful completion of annual objectives;
b) Assist in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, and regularly monitor/control expenses against budget;
c) Assure that policies and practices support regulatory compliance; and that staff receive sufficient training to adhere to policies and practices;
d) Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement functions as appropriate, indicated and necessary;
e) Oversee the proper development of all residence staff to allow them to function optimally, in both self-directed ways and as members of a team;
f) Develop and monitor the delivery of residential care and services consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of CHPC;
g) Assure compliance with all laws and regulations related to licensure, accreditation,
certification and safety;
h) Arrange for the provision of supplies, pharmaceuticals and other ancillary services in the residence;
i) Assigns and schedules the clinical staff members to ensure that patient/family needs are met
j) Conducts supervisory visits with clinical staff as appropriate;
k) Evaluates performance of residence clinical staff;
l) Routinely keep Management Staff apprised of matters related to program operations;
m) Assure clinical and fiscal integrity in the delivery of the Hospice Residence;
n) Coordinate recruitment, selection and retention of staff for the Hospice Residence;
o) Ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development program;
p) Participate in developing and managing the annual financial plan for the Hospice residence;
q) Oversee and develop Clinical Policies/Procedures and forms related to Hospice Residence and CHPC;
r) Actively participate in positive and appropriate public relations and marketing activities as requested;
s) Schedule Home Health Aides;
t) Support and maintain regulatory compliance;
u) Maintain/enhance professional skills and requirements including education and training;
v) Perform other tasks and duties, as assigned;
w) Take initiative as needed or when the opportunity arises;
x) Travel, as required.

III. Formal Education Requirements
At least an Associate’s Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred or the agreement to start such a course of study within one year.

IV. Formal Experience Requirements
At least 2 years’ Hospice and Palliative Care as a Registered Nurse with at least three (3) years management experience in Hospice Care.

  • Current license as RN.
  • Valid Driver license and current auto insurance

Demonstrates the use of effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication with patients, families, members of the healthcare team and community in order to therapeutically address and accurately convey the hospice/palliative care needs of patients and families.

VI. Working Conditions and Environmental Hazards
This position works in contact with risks associated with blood-borne pathogens and needle sticks. Care must be taken to follow all health and safety requirements.

Position requires a high level of independent judgment in performing responsibilities.
